| Thomas Eakins (1844 – 1916) was a Philadelphia artist whose paintings of local scenes and people were so charged with emotional truth and visual fact, that he became the leader of American naturalistic painting in the 1870’s. The Museum’s collection of paintings by Eakins is one of the best in the world. |
